Beem R. Judain is a fifth-year student during Iruma Suzuki's second year at Babyls. They are a member of the Art Battler but not very active, as their usually just lazing around. However, there are rumors that they used to draw a lot. They are loaned along with Vine Marnie by their battler to the Magical Tools Research Battler to help in their project for the Battler Party.
Personality[]
Judain is shown at first to spend most of their time lazing around. They appear quite disinterested and apathetic towards things outside their artistic interests. However, they become quite animated and overwhelmed once motivated by them, demanding that the Magical Tools Research Battler provide them with everything they need - such as expensive brushes and that they're fine with substituting actual blood for their desired paints.
They show little care for the consequences of their work so long as they can draw.[3]
Appearance[]
Judain first appeared as a giant black bush of hair with elongated arms that come out regularly. Their full appearance, Judain is a tall fifth-year student wearing what appears to be a female uniform, but on the wrist and collar stripe, there are three spikes (one big and the other two small. For their face, Judain has sharp red teeth with two black fangs, black eyes with a dashed line across their red pupils, and short antlers for horns. The tip of their tail has fur shaped like a paintbrush and can be used as one.
History[]
Judain grew up with a love for dark colors and art. Their parents tried to discourage them, worrying about a return to origin, but the family security demon encouraged Judain to follow their passion. Unfortunately, exposure to Judain's art caused the security demon to suffer physical and mental harm, leading to them quitting their position. Judain parents confiscated all their art supplies but they continued to paint in secret using their tail as a brush, eventually creating the painting "Bowing Palome" and submitting it to a gallery. The painting was taken down for the maleffects it was causing on viewers, and Judain was forbidden from ever creating or showing their art outside of their house.
Later, Judain spent their fifth year in Babyls at the Art Battler as a corner dweller with their companion, Marnie. Things changed when the Magical Tools Research Battler came requesting help from the Art Battler for their haunted house. At first, the corner dwellers were gonna refuse, but their identity is recognized by Silvia, and she reveals she is a fan of their painting. Asking for their help, Judain is overjoyed and excited to draw again; though they admit their drawings will traumatize the students, They excuse it since the Magical Tools Research Battler will take responsibility.
Along with Silvia, they create a new character, Palome's little sister, Galna, to be the star of their terrifying art.
Alter Ego[]
In the universe of the story introducing their paintings, Judain lent much of their appearance to a character named Moebius Bime, rumored to have the bloodline ability to transform people into paintings, and was the first curator of the Moebius Museum.[4]
Relationships[]
Vine Marnie[]
Since they're both the Corner Dwellers of the Art Battler, they share the same isolation and solitude from the other students and seem to have a good friendship despite not speaking with each other. Judain often helps Marnie since she's small and often speaks for her when she can't do it for herself.
Sabnock Silvia[]
Silvia is a huge fan of Judain's work and is inspired by them to undertake the project of creating a fully realized character for their art at the haunted house.
Abilities[]
- Artist: Being a member of the Art Battler, Judain is a talented artist whose first and only piece is the "Bowing Palome." A mysterious painting that many demons feared because of an Urban Legend.[5]
- Demonic Paintings: Judain's art carries a tremendous and potentially deadly malediction that afflicts everyone who witnesses them. When viewing the painting, its viewers are put in a trance state where they "dialogue" with the painting, which tempts them to leave everything behind and depart with them. As they are seduced by the painting, the viewers take on an immense physical and psychological strain as they are subjected to its diabolical influence. Even a demon as powerful as Naberius Kalego was left exhausted at fending off the painting's power, a testament to the painting's hazardous effects on the populace. The painting's power can be neutralized by blocking the line of sight between the viewer and the painting, using extreme force of will, or by talking to the viewer out of the painting's temptations. Judain is naturally immune to the painting's power and can help viewers return to their senses.
- Camouflage: Being a corner dweller like Marnie, Judain can avoid standing out by appearing as a giant lump of black bushy hair on top of storage boxes and only appearing when they want to.[6]
Trivia[]
- Judain is always referred to using non-gender pronouns.
