Together with a Friend (トモダチと2人 Tomodachi to Futari?, also known as 2人の友 (Futari no Tomo) in the manga volume) is the one hundred-and-seventy-seventh chapter of Osamu Nishi's Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun.
Summary[]
The weekend comes, and Iruma and Alice go to Magical Street as per Clara's plan. Both of them wear Anti-Recognition Glasses, and Alice tries to be extra cautious. He asks about Clara, but Iruma explains that it is just the two of them today, which makes Alice more nervous. The two first go into a clothing store, with Iruma telling him that he wants to try picking clothes with a friend this time. This delights Alice, but he finds all the clothes extremely cheap, unused to this type of clothing.
His attention is turned to Iruma, covered head-to-toe in armor, which worries him that it will crush him. After he takes it off, Alice changes clothes into something more casual, which he admits he isn't used to, but Iruma thinks he looks good in it, as he is wearing a similar style. Alice offers to buy the clothes, but Iruma offers to do it himself, which Alice accepts while admiring how fast he picks up on spending. The two even buy a video game that Iruma says he lost to Lied against constantly, which was the main catalyst.
The two eventually take a break and sit on a bench together, despite Alice's fears that he goofed around all day rather than guard Iruma, yet he seems relieved that Iruma had become so bold, thinking back to how timid he was when they first met and how natural it is for him to laugh loudly. However, Kirio's words were still ringing in his head, causing him to ask why he invited him out. Iruma tells Alice he wants to say something to him as he pulls out his rank pin. He remembers how he once said that moving up in the ranks was a demon's pride, and when he became Rank 5, everyone celebrated with him, but now he thinks the rank is very heavy.
Seeing him confused, Iruma explains that he is delighted but feels it came way too fast, and Rank 4 was just as good, and maybe he was too early and that while he was excited, he now feels the pressure and worries he became "too amazing." While going on and on, Alice starts laughing, which Iruma notices. After he calms down, Iruma tells him that he has grown so much despite the weight of this burden, and therefore he learns more about himself as a result. Now, he won't let go of the badge and will aim higher, calling himself greedy.
Iruma tells Alice that he wants him and Clara to stick with him because he feels anxious about it and wants their support, but he sees a tear falling from his eyes and asks if he is okay. Alice responds that he is and that his chest feels like it is on fire. He wonders why he was so afraid and why he felt so down after what Kirio said, realizing that Iruma doesn't need protecting because no matter who tries to crush his spirit or who better understands his journey, no demon is as lucky as himself, for he feels the closest to Iruma, and he can therefore watch him carve his path and stand on top of the Demon World.
With his resolve strengthened, he tells Iruma that he will follow him no matter where he goes, which delights Iruma. Alice says that it is because they are friends, but Iruma says that the two of them trust and depend on each other, so he sees himself and Alice as 'soulmates,' which causes Alice to ask if that is ranked higher than as a 'friend,' which he embarrassingly says it is as he asks for more information.
