The Soulmates Meeting (シンユー会議 Shin'yū Kaigi?) is the one hundred-and-seventy-eighth chapter of Osamu Nishi's Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun.
Summary[]
Within Royal One, Alice holds a meeting with the rest of the Abnormal Class to explain the meanings of the words "friend" and "soulmate."
Alice starts by describing the word "friend" to everyone based on what Iruma previously told him; he defines it as someone who shares their pain with another along with their joy and would willingly lay down their lives for the other. He then says that a "soulmate" is ranked even higher, and he defines it as binding one's soul to the other and offering your whole essence to them. He then announces that Iruma has called himself and Clara his soulmates, while the rest of the class are his "friends," which shocks everyone.
When Iruma returns to the room, the students clamor over to him regarding this, and Iruma confirms with a smile, saying he has long considered everyone in the class his friends for some time. While they try to familiarize themselves with this new concept, Kerori steps forward and tells Iruma to rephrase it by saying "he" is "her" friend because, according to her, she would instead give up his life more than herself, which confuses him. As the others start surrounding him, Alice tries to get them to help him.
After the "Iruma-tossing session" that Iruma puts ends, Iruma decides to explain to everyone what a "friend" really means. He defines it as people who hang out, eat together, and care for each other. The class accepts this simple definition (and derides Alice for his exaggeration). Jazz asks Iruma if he considers Kalego a friend, which Iruma says he is not, considering it rude to think so. Jazz then asks about the janitor Iruma helps out, and Iruma confirms somewhat but considers Bachiko simply as his "master." Lied then asks about the quartet of girls from the other class, and Iruma says they seem to be more of Picero and Goemon's friends than his own. Sabro then asks what a "soulmate" is, and Iruma says they are friends who you are even closer to. Soi then questions whether he considers everyone his "soulmate."
This causes all the students to clamor around Iruma again, asking if it is true so they can have the higher title. This results in Alice yelling that the honor of Iruma's "soulmate" belongs to himself and Clara, causing the rest to back off. The class then tells Iruma that they consider his level of knowledge strange and if he grew up somewhere else to know so little of the Demon World yet so much about things they don't know, to which Iruma vaguely says he did. The class decides that different regions of the Demon World have different dialects and customs and assume the situation is the same with Iruma. When Jazz asks if you can be friends or soulmates with a demon of a higher ranking, Iruma says yes, to which Lied asks what he considers Ameri.
Speaking of, the Student Council President makes her rounds in the school accompanied by her subordinate Astaroth Smoke, who subtly hints at her reading sessions with Iruma. Ameri can play it off and returns to her office, where she sees a message sent to her by Iruma regarding a reading session. She happily marks the date as Iruma starts thinking about what Ameri is to him.
