One Year’s Distance is the one hundred-and-seventy-ninth chapter of Osamu Nishi's Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun.

Summary[]

Ameri is walking down the halls doing her morning routine, telling the students to straighten up and not fly indoors. The students of Babyls look in awe at how amazing and beautiful she is. Originally she seemed unapproachable and uptight, but recently has a sparkling aura around her making her a true peerless elite demon. In the student council room, Ameri stares at her phone flustered and excited because Iruma is coming tomorrow for their reading session. She makes sure her work is finished and the tea and snacks are prep. She and Iruma haven’t had a reading session in a while since the two were busy during the music festival. Ameri with her paper work for the end of the year and Iruma for his piano practice and after party the two will finally be free tomorrow.

Disappointed that Iruma rejected her invite and instead went to celebrate with his classmates, Ameri reassures herself they both got along and even went out on a date. But the reading sessions are the only times when Ameri can be with Iruma and she can stop being the president. Just then, she receives an Deviculum invitation from her father, on the same day she was supposed to meet up with Iruma. She tries to deny it, but Henri explains that this event is for high ranked demons only and is essential if she wants to achieve her ambitions. He questions is her ambitions so weak she’d throw them away, she replies it isn’t and cancels her reading session with Iruma. Disappointed, she sits in the corner and contemplates on what it would’ve been like if she and Iruma went to Babyls at the year. It’s a silly fantasy she thought, but just wants to see Iruma.

At the Deviculum, Ameri accompany’s her father meeting other high-ranked demons greeting them individually. She later sits alone watching the other noble demons dancing together. Thinking how once she saw a demoness shine while she dance, and wishes it could be her with Iruma. Interrupted, Ameri is approached by male demons whom compliment her and offer a dance. Not wanting to give her father concern about her ambition, Ameri swallows her sorrow and accepts the hand. But before that could happen, a commotion causes nearly all the nobles attention. Turns out one of the three greats has made an appearance. To Ameri’s surprise, Sullivan, Opera and Iruma dressed up as a noble have joined the Deviculum event. Iruma presents himself to Ameri in person, he kneels and asks the flustered demoness for a dance.
