Expression of Despair (絶望の
Summary[]
Recap from the previous chapter, where it finally hit Iruma that he's a human in the Netherworld, Kirio is a true demon. Letting go of his throat, Kirio continues his story and explains why he wants to destroy the school. It goes back to the old days at the Magical Tools Research Battler and when he first met his senpai.
Flashback towards the old Magical Tools Research Battler, lil' Kirio is glared down by a room full of angry demons and is more excited by their aggression than anything. Asking what he wants, Kirio excitedly explains how he heard about the battler, and he managed to sneak in with his parents during the party just to see other demons like himself. Even being threatened with a blade didn't stop Kirio's happiness; he just caressed the blade and asked how many demons it killed and if it was exhilarating. Though the demon group is disturbed, Baal asks who he is, and Kirio explains his plight, including the incident with his school friend losing her earring and how he gave her his horn to apologize for losing it, only to disturb her more.
Kirio knows what he's done is not considered normal. However, Baal corrects Kirio by saying that's just how a demon should always be. To him, the Netherworld has gotten too soft and lost its ways, forgetting that demons are supposed to be malicious and thrive on the misery of others. So Baal pours corrupted wine and offers Kirio to join him and his crew in sending the Netherworld back to its original chaotic world. After that, Kirio would meet up with Baal, and he would teach and share with him various knowledge, power, and his ambition to bring despair back into the Netherworld. Even after Kirio joined Bablys, Baal left him with a task to destroy the school and its foundation of ranks. The school's ranks are like staircases where the lowest must always obey the highest, but if the stairs were cliffs, it would bring total chaos. Kirio gloats over this, looking down at a low-hanging Iruma, saying that the fireworks they've made will bring anguish to the parents seeing their deceased children. He only let Iruma in his room just so he was in agony, desperately wanting to see how he would react. Kirio's face was in shock.
Iruma didn't wallow in despair and instead walked up to the Gabu device and proceeded to take the firework off it. Confused and angry, Kirio asks Iruma why he wasn't falling into despair, and Iruma answers there's no point to it if it doesn't help anybody. This is why Iruma is never going to give up and smash his ambitions away. Kirio has always thought he and Iruma were the same: quiet, skilled at defense, and ambitious. However, Kirio is a demon who wants to flood the world with despair, and Iruma is a boy who swims through those waters regularly. Iruma is Kirio's greatest foe.
