"Just like you've got high hopes for me... I'm expecting big things outta you. Don't get cold feet just 'cause you can't picture it. It's okay to fail. If it comes to that, then as your master, I'll train you right back into shape. A real interesting stage has been set for you. If you call yourself an archer, then step forward... and shoot your shot! Iruma!" ― Barbatos Bachiko
Something I Want (ほしいもの Hoshī Mono?) is the three hundred-and-fifty-second chapter of Osamu Nishi's Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun.
Summary[]
Iruma thinks back to when he received the letter of recommendation for Scala from Dali after the Battler Party, who also told him he just needed to write his name down and get his guardian's signature. As Dali gives Iruma some cotton candy, he informs him that Iruma doesn't have to take Scala if he isn't ready to, so he should take his time and think about it carefully, to which Iruma agrees.
Once alone, Iruma ponders whether to take the exam, especially since he doesn't feel he deserves to be Rank 5. Bachiko surprises him from behind, much to Iruma's delight, and compliments him on winning the Tricky Award despite being so close to winning the Top Award. Bachiko then notices the application for Scala and assumes he's already decided to take it, but Iruma clarifies he hasn't yet, especially since he can't imagine himself ready to become Rank 6. Bachiko gets off Iruma's shoulders and says she understands his hesitation because acquiring a high-ranking promotion will be difficult. However, she tells him that if he does pull it off, she'll be thrilled to bits because she also has the same expectations for him that he does for her, so Iruma shouldn't feel intimidated just because he can't picture it. Bachiko even tells Iruma that if he fails, she'll train him again so that he doesn't again, and if Iruma truly considers himself an archer, he needs to step forward and take this shot. Inspired by her support, Iruma agrees to take the exam, determined to show everyone who supports him that their faith is not misplaced. Despite that, Iruma knows he'll be separated from everyone again, making him feel lonely.
In the present, Mephisto snaps Iruma out of his thoughts as they arrive at a campsite in the Hell-Hell Wilds. Mephisto reveals to Iruma that the campsite belongs to the demons of the Many Ears race, which he says are incredibly scarce and have three or more different types of ears. Among the race is Meimei, whom Iruma remembers from the Music Festival. Mephisto explains to Iruma that Many-Eared demons live scattered around different areas where they can utilize their traits effectively, but now that they desire to preserve their kind, it was decided a place would be made for them to settle. In other words, this country that the two will establish will be the new home for the Many Ears race.
Mephisto warns Iruma that while this may just be an exam for him, they are trying to help an endangered race thrive, which is why it's so important to the Demon World, and therefore, he needs to steel his resolve towards making it happen, which Iruma understands. Mephisto then gives Iruma a bell with his crest on it so he can ring him for help during the exam if he really needs something from him, but warns him that it can only be used once, so he needs to pick the right moment. Though just as he says they should meet the elder, Iruma immediately rings it, to Mephisto's shock and confusion.
After that, the two meet the Many Ears race's elder, Munmu, who thanks Mephisto for coming. He is then introduced not only to Iruma but to Alice and Clara as well. It turns out that thing Iruma really wanted from Mephisto was to bring Alice and Clara to him so they could help him, and though Mephisto wasn't expecting things to turn out this way, he muses how Iruma is just full of surprises.
