The Misfits (問題児 (アブノーマル) クラス Abunōmaru Kurasu?, or The Misfits Class in the official English volume) is the fifth chapter of Osamu Nishi's Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun.

Summary[]

Iruma, Asmodeus, and Clara are introduced to the Abnormal Class full of mischievous students and their first exam.

Plot[]

One day, Iruma offhandedly mentions that he doesn't want to be noticed at school anymore by his demonic guardian Sullivan. This leads to the "Abnormal Class" - a class for strange students who like to attract attention so that Iruma can blend in.

Iruma arrives alongside his friends, Alice and Clara, outside a massive classroom door. He opens the door, only to find deadly weapons flying right for his face. Iruma stumbles into the classroom, dodging every dozen deadly weapons being aimed his way. He receives a round of applause and finds that the class was making bets on the number of weapons new students would be impaled with upon entering the classroom. Iruma was the only one to dodge all of them.

Sabnock Sabro's introduction

He soon learns of a student even stranger than most of the Misfit Class - a demon who refused to dodge a single weapon, taking them all head-on in a show of strength. Sabnock Sabro is introduced, with swords sticking out of his body. He declares that he is the most suitable candidate for the role of Demon King, a dream he will achieve by reaching rank Yod.

The Demon Ranking System is introduced, with Yod being the top rank and Aleph the lowest. Sabnock also mentions that the quickest way to the top was to defeat strong opponents. He confronts Iruma and questions Iruma's status as a genuine demon before Alice steps in. The two argue, with Alice declaring his position as Iruma's friend. Sabnock gets confused at the term, but Alice explains what Iruma told him. He even dramatically adds that friends are bound by blood pacts to give their life, which Sabnock thinks is cool. Iruma tries to tell them it is false when Kalego steps in to calm the class down and reveals himself as their homeroom teacher. He also says he was wrongfully arrested on the day of the meeting and was designated in his absence.

Kalego begins the class by sending them outside on the peak behind the school. He explains that the first exam and the familiar summoning determine their ranks. They must reach the flag on the other side of the valley as fast as possible while avoiding sky columns and bird monsters protecting their nests. One student asks if they're allowed to attack the bird monsters, and Kalego says they can do what they want but will get deductions for killing too many. He also points out that Warbling Valley is the only course available this year, as Cutthroat Valley is off-limits due to a guardian who seems to be on edge lately. Sabnock refuses to follow Kalego's words and decides to go to Cutthroat Valley regardless, but Kalego ensures him that the entire course will remain the same.

Iruma is left behind as the rest of the students grow wings.

As the whole class, except for Iruma, prepares themselves, Kalego grows wings and says he will be waiting for them at the finish line. The entire class then grows wings, revealing that the course is a flying race. Iruma is left behind as the flying race starts.
