The concept of the festival is to represent a challenge equal to what it is like to survive into the Demon World after graduation from school. Since professor Orias Oswell is director of the festival and supervising it with Naberius Kalego, the number of casualties during the festival have decrease significantly, mostly thanks to the bloodline magic of Orias, "Lucky Happy".[1]

Young kings of recents festivals included Balam Shichiro who won with 55 000 points,[2] Azazel Ameri who won with 59 000 points,[3] Shax Lied and Iruma Suzuki who both won with 60 000 points.[4] The latter two bore the title together as they end up in a tie and were the firsts in history to discover the Legendary Lief, a unique and specially rewarding ingredient in the forest.

Quest of the Legendary Leaf[]
For many years it has existed a secret and unique ingredients worth 100 000 points that nobody manage to find, the Legendary Leaf. To find it implies to launch oneself into a quest of many trials. Only once students were able to complete it. First it starts by a collect of information, which implies getting some from the magical beasts under the form of a song on how to find the hidden ingredient. The first part of the song’s lyrics go:
So you want to know
How do you grow
The Legendary Leaf of stories told
Well here it goes
First you need a seed
And a planting pot
Now single the wife
Walks a hundred step
And show you to her secret spot
Then find her old mother in law too
Go in circle round and round
Get low what’s undertow
Time to dive deep underground
Great the gaping maw before you
Patiently lurking
Hidden in the beasty’s belly
The magic seed of
The Seed of Beginnings[10]

trials in front of genies
The song points down a path for mainly two trials where the students are tested by giant genies. One is a test of bravery to be passed through a series of games and rewarded by the Vase of Endings, an item worthing 20 000 points on his own. The other is a test of knowledge where the challenger should tell a story to the genie that is unknown to the deity and was rewarded by the Seed of Beginnings. On the way to the trials can be found a student posing as a contestant in trouble. If the ones looking for the Legendary Leaf would help the student in trouble, the student will in return help them for the rest of the quest. The two rewards are required to make the Legendary Leaf bloom. The Seed of Beginnings should be put into the vase and watered, then it will bloom thanks to the Quan Quan spell fueled with a lot of mana.

the Legendary Leaf
The goal of this challenge is to reward the less demon-like demon possible. The conditions of success being to not to be lead astray by easy game (fulfilled by the rescue of the student in trouble), to care about others, to enjoy the absurd, to follow their own desires, to try for their goal with endless persistence and never give up. After the competition ended the Legendary Leaf starts to speak and explains all of this by itself before flying into the air and exploding in a storm of petals very similar to cherry blossoms.
Promotion[]

Camui's forces battling Goemon's
Only students with high scores who managed to show the most of their abilities in this survival exercise are promoted at the end of it. Besides the young kings, students for instance displaying great leadership were rewarded like Agares Picero and Gaap Goemon for leading other students or Crocell Kerori and Caim Kamui for taking control of a number of magical beasts and in doing so following in the footsteps of Balam Shichiro who became young king without causing any unnecessary harm to beasts.
Trivia[]
In the anime the song sang by the magical beasts seems to stop after the part on the Legendary Leaf with Iruma and Lied applauding at the end of the musical number. But it is implied later on, when Iruma split the lyrics in two parts, that the song is twice as long as the part that was sang. In the manga too, only the first part of the song is actually display but it is mentioned that the song continued for a bit after that.[11]
