Summary[]

The upperclassmen begin the Rookie Hunt.

Iruma's ring directs him to a timid demon.

Plot[]

As the countdown comes to an end, the First-Year tower is suddenly swarmed by a hoard of senior demons looking for new members for their battlers. It doesn't take long for many of the older demons to locate Asmodeus as he is the primary target for majority of the battlers, but the fire demon has no intention of joining any club without Iruma and creates a fire barrier around the three to keep others at bay.

Asmodeus explains that the Rookie Hunt is only allowed for sixty-six minutes on the day the ban on battler trial's is lifted. Because it's such a small window to gather members, many of the upperclassmen tend to be rather forceful and use any means to get new members but Asmodeus feels confident his fire barrier will keep them safe.

The trio observes the chaos going on during the hunt and see how things are starting to get rather intense. Asmodeus is certain that things will not get too out of hand when he points out how the student council takes charge to keep things under control. At the sight of the council, and especially Ameri, the students start to mind their behavior better.

Realizing that Ameri is the same president he was previously told was searching for him, Iruma cannot fully believe they are the same person. Ameri walks over to the three and surprises everyone when she hands Iruma a form to join the student council if he is interested but tries to make it seem like it is solely due to his performance during his previous promotion. Asmodeus takes the form for Iruma and Ameri shakily walks away. Iruma himself is left stunned at finding out Ameri is the president and decides to message her later.

After the hunt has ended, the students return to class. Kalego informs the students that the next three days will be a battler trial period for those who either were not invited or joined one on their own. By the end of the trial, they must each select one to join. With the battlers being important to ranking up, Iruma questions which one he should join.

After class the first-years head off to another area where a much calmer scouting is taking place. Asmodeus continues to be the main target for several battlers, but he turns each one down while Iruma is revealed to have gathered a pile of fliers since he cannot turn anyone away. Asmodeus easily burns the fliers and then becomes annoyed when spotting Clara trying to join the succubus battler.

The group run into Lied, Jazz, and Kamui. Lied reveals he is going to join the gaming battler under the claim he will be learning new strategies and Jazz will be joining the magic battler to learn new spells and alchemy. However, Asmodeus sees their true reasons being that Lied simply wants to play games and Jazz wants riches. Kamui states he will be joining the Ladies Study battler, but Asmodeus points out that such a battler doesn't even exist.

Iruma is questioned which battler he will be joining when his ring suddenly glows and quickly drags Iruma away. It drags him down different hallways until he eventually collides into someone. Iruma quickly apologizes at the same time the other does. Although Iruma is concerned when he sees the boy cough up blood, he is told that it is a condition that makes him do it regularly.

This is when the demon notices Iruma's ring and states that he has a necklace made of the same material as the ring. Seeing the mess they caused, Iruma helps the boy gather his belongings and notices how he is poorly treated by others despite being their upperclassman. He is told that this is due to the boys Bet rank as he is not a very powerful demon. This was the reason why he created his collar as it stores magic similar to Iruma's ring with the intention that other weaker demons can one day utilize magic like others. With his belongings gathered, the demon hurries off as Iruma sees a resemblance between himself and the demon in both terms of personality and magic levels.

After being located by Asmodeus and Clara, the trio continue on their search for a battler to join. They look at a few battlers and run into Sabnock as he locates the Demon King battler. He charges in expecting a fight but is at first confused when he learns that the battler does obsessive research on the demon king in order to learn as much as they can about him. Sabnock is moved beyond words when he sees the amount of knowledge on the demon king around him and is greatly welcomed by the current members.

The day ends with the trio failing to join a battler.

At home, Iruma brings up how his ring acts out on his own but doesn't get an answer as Sullivan puts a level system on the ring. He guides Iruma through the three levels and the power differences. However, the final level is one that Iruma must be the most cautious with as it is the most dangerous and will use most of the magic in the ring.

The next day, Iruma locates the Dodgeball battler and tries to throw the ball while using the Devil mode on his ring. While it does make an impact, it does not impress the current members, but they still extend an offer to join. While Asmodeus tries to keep Clara from causing mischief, Iruma gets a message from Ameri concerning a visit to the council. As Iruma replies that he will visit later, a sudden explosion takes place.

Iruma cautiously approaches the room the explosion came from and finds the demon he bumped into earlier.

Difference between Anime and Manga[]

  • Anime: After the Rookie Hunt ends, Kalego tells the Misfits of a three-day trial period for battlers right after the Rookie Hunt ends.
Manga: This does not take place until after Iruma first meets Kirio.
  • Anime: After seeing Sabnock join a battler, Iruma returns home and Sullivan makes the level adjustment to his ring. His trial with the Dodgeball Battler takes place the next day.
Manga: The next scene after Sabnock is Iruma trying to join the Dodgeball Battler but failing to make the cut. The scene of Sullivan adjusting the ring is done as a flashback after Iruma throws the ball.
  • Anime: Just before Iruma finds the Magical Apparatuce Battler, he gets a text message from Ameri.
Manga: She does not message him.

Trivia[]

  • There is an animation goof where in The Misfit Class after Clara calls Kalego by her own nickname, part of his lower body is clipped and missing.
