Valac Clara (ウァラク・クララ Uaraku Kurara?) is the tritagonist of the series. She is a student in the Abnormal Class at Babyls Demon School, and a friend of Iruma Suzuki.
Appearance[]
Clara has long, straight, lime green hair and lime green eyes. A pair of rightly curled horns sits just above her pointed ears. Her teeth are sharp and her nails are red. She has a long red tail with a heart on the end. She wears the traditional girls' uniform provided by Babyls, a white short-sleeved sailor shirt with red trim, and a red skirt, and a large red bow tied around the collar. She has personal pockets on her skirt that are yellow with white smiling faces on them which serves as an integral part of her magic. She also wears slippers that look like green monsters, named Connor and Murph.
Personality[]
Clara is one of the stranger students at the school, acting very much like an excited child. She has abundant energy that most students can't keep up with. Other students find her weird and hard to deal with, but are drawn to her because her inherited power is so convenient. Since she had no friends, she would give students snacks and drinks as "payment" for playing with her. Her immature nature makes it difficult for others to get along with her, so much that most of the class can't stand her and wonder how Alice and Iruma can tolerate her so much. Despite her childishness, Clara is fully aware of how people view her as an annoyance yet still gives in to their demands in an effort to fit in. After befriending Iruma and Alice she learned to stop letting students use her for snacks and embrace herself and learn to befriend others in her class.
She is very grateful to Iruma and Alice as they are the only ones who play with her unconditionally and is deeply attached to them. Because of this, she easily gets angry when they can't play with her. After Azazel Ameri starts hanging out with Iruma, Clara became deeply jealous of them spending time to the point she resorted to using various ideas to interrupt their time together. However, her jealousy was moreover them "playing" with them instead of her, and was more interested in playing with Iruma. She was more than willing to fight Alice to get to him or using her powers to break down the door in Ameri's room.
Because of her childish nature, she is so innocent that she is 2% erotic (with babies being 3% erotic), with all her attempts at "enchanting" Iruma from a book ending in constant failure. Despite this, Clara will not force him to fall for her, as she refuses Professor Raim's love potion to force him on her. Although she seems to mature somewhat as she declares her honest intentions to "enchant" him, she rises to 10% (which actually makes Iruma skip a beat).
But she wasn't alone in her being a simple-minded demon. The Valac Family had the same personality, except for the father and Uralaka.
History[]
Not much is known about Clara's history before attending Babyls, though it is implied through song that her father has not been around for a big chunk of her life, given that he has not made an appearance outside of the line that all the Valac children (sans Uralala) sing in the anime, "Valac Uralala and Daddy are out there somewhere, too, but that'll remain a secret for now."
Additionally, considering how overjoyed Clara was at Iruma choosing to play with her, one can infer that even before attending Babyls, she was treated much the same as the shown scenes where some Babyls students take advantage of her ability due to its convenience.
Synopsis[]
Babyls Enrollment Arc[]
She first encountered Iruma and Alice when she was supposed to claim her textbooks and almost crashed into them while rolling into a stack of boxes. They were noticed by a teacher and were sent off leaving Clara with them. This event led to Clara asking Iruma and Alice to play with her, with Alice immediately rejecting the proposition, but Iruma being unable to refuse, agreed to play with Clara bringing Alice along.
After playing with her, Clara overheard some of the students who were previously taking advantage of her assuming that Iruma was only using her to get free stuff, this led Clara to offer treats to Iruma hoping that by giving him the compensation he will continue playing with her. Iruma refused to take the treats stating that he does not need them and that he will play with Clara without any need for compensation. This act of unconditional friendship made Clara blush and allowed her to confront those students who were previously taking advantage of her.
During their lunch break, Clara was apprehended by Camu Camu one of the shop keepers in the cafeteria saying that she was banned from his store due to her ability to create, and therefore pirate, things that she sees. The commotion in the cafeteria prompted Kalego to intervene leading to him being summoned by Iruma upon Clara's instruction to try using a summoning sticker. After escaping the commotion in the cafeteria, Iruma asked her and Alice if they could be his "friends".
On their first-class activity (flying race) she rode all the way from the starting to the finish line on Alice's back, hence arriving second on the race. This event merited her the rank of Gimel (3) as her initial rank. She was present in the Diabotany Class when Iruma summoned a huge "flower" subsequently destroying the Diabotany tower.
When Iruma was busy spending time with Azazel Ameri of the student council, Clara became jealous as she wanted to play with Iruma. This motivated her to take Seductive Studies as an elective.
Cannonball Execution Arc[]
She, along with Alice and Opera helped train Iruma for Execution Cannonball, an activity in which freshmen can rank up. On the day of the Execution Cannonball, she was grouped with Iruma in the yellow team, and against Alice who was assigned to the red team. The outcome of their event led to Iruma ranking up.
Battler Party Arc[]
During the Battler Exhibition, Clara expressed her intentions to join the Succubus Battlers, to which she was held back by Alice. She along with Alice and Iruma eventually joined the Magic Apparatus Battlers with Amy Kirio. In preparation for the Battler Party, they decided to set off fireworks as their presentation.
On the eve of the Battler Party, and unknown to Clara, Alice, and Iruma, Kirio was planning to use the fireworks presentation as a means to destroy the school and kill all of the people within it. When Kirio's plan was set into motion using his barriers to trap everyone within the school Clara using her Summon ability summoned small magical paper soldiers to help guide Iruma to where Kirio might be staying.
After Kirio's plan was foiled, She, along with the group proceeded to conduct their fireworks display for the entire school and their families to watch. During the awarding ceremony, the support they received from the student body, and for their actions in stopping Kirio from destroying the school led to them receiving the Tricky Award which allowed one member of the Battler to be given one rank up, to which was given to Iruma.
Akudol Kuromu Arc[]
Clara, along with Iruma and Alice performed as the opening act during Kuromu's 24-hour live concert due to Kuromu passing out in her dressing room. After Kuromu woke up, they performed a live concert with Kuromu.
Student Council Training Arc[]
Clara was temporarily assigned to Gaming Battlers as the Magical Apparatus Battlers was suspended due to the lack of a third-year student, or three lower-year students with at least a rank of Daleth (4).
When Ameri's was attacked which resulted in a change in her personality, and the student council was suddenly challenged to a dissolution election by Ronove Lomiere of the Student Discipline Division, Clara, along with Alice, conducted a successful investigation which led to exposing Elicos Schenell as the culprit.
Royal One Acquisition Arc[]
When the Abnormal Class was set on obtaining the Royal One as their official classroom, Clara, along with Shax and Elizabetta was assigned to deal with Orias Oswell in order to obtain his signature for the petition. It was agreed upon that if Orias was beaten in the game created by Clara (named the Unjalaka), he would sign the petition.
Harvest Festival[]
After their semester vacation, their homeroom teacher, Kalego, informed the Abnormal Class that the Royal One requires students worthy of its standing, hence, requiring all students to reach the rank of Daleth (4) by the end of their freshman year.
To accomplish the task of reaching rank 4, students were paired and assigned to a special tutor. Clara was paired with Ix Elizabetta, and was assigned Raim as their special tutor.
During the four-day Harvest Festival, Clara teamed up with Elizabetta. Together they would use their charm to steal points from other players. On the first day, both she and Elizabetta stole points from Iruma and Lied. Ix dealt with Lied, while Clara dealt with Iruma using Bakkun and her technique "Clara's Toybox", in which she plays with her victims (Iruma in this case) until they tire out due to the technique sucking mana as an effect.
On the last day of the Harvest Festival, she was targeted by Orobas Coco, in which he inflicted his Bloodline Magic "Trauma" against her, only to be saved by Iruma. Upon being saved by Iruma, they are threatened by Orobas, but are then saved by Alice, leading to his disqualification from the festival. Her involvement in the acquisition of the Legendary Leaf was instrumental in Iruma and Lied's victory in the Harvest Festival.
Music Festival[]
Clara was part of the Abnormal Class' musical entitled "Lilith's Red Carpet" where she was part of the dance group. After the Music Festival, the entire class was promoted to Daleth (4) for their performance (except for Iruma who was promoted to rank 5).
Abilities[]
Summon: Clara is able to perfectly recreate or summon any item, object, or person she has seen previously and pull it out of one of the pockets lining her skirt. Inanimate objects are replicated, and people or creatures are summoned. The size and weight of what she is trying to pull out do not matter. This power is generally used for replicating food, but she has shown that it can be used for destructive purposes. The limits of this ability are unknown.[1]
- Clara's ToyBox: By Wearing a Mascot suit and using her bloodline magic to recognize the suit itself as one of her "pockets". She is capable of creating a psuedo-illusionary Realm where she can create anything she wants. She uses this in combination with Stealth in order to sneak up on targets, abduct them into her suit and then lure them into playing with her in order to tire them out and drain them of all their magic until they collapse and proceeds to rob them afterward.
- This move is so powerful it was able to almost completely drain the Ring of Gluttony.
Slipper Kick: An anime-only offensive physical attack, Clara uses both of her feet, and to an extent, both Connor and Murf, to smack anything on its way.[2]
Clara Rolling: Clara uses her body to turn into a wheel-like formation and rolls instantaneously, but her head spitting out and still can be seen. This only happened in the anime.[2]
Game Development: Clara's imagination and creativity allowed her to be temporarily assigned to the Gaming Battlers when the Magic Apparatus Battlers were temporarily suspended. Her game development skills were showcased when her game named Unjalaka was the one utilized by both Shax and Orias to settle the petition to allow the Abnormal Class to use Royal One.[3]
Soothing Singing: Clara has an outstanding ability to calm and comfort when she sings. She was able to briefly calm down Alikred when he was first summoned, and when used in full potential, she can make them fall asleep instantly when they lie on her lap. She normally uses this to get her little siblings to go to sleep. Clara also calls this her Special Sleep Ritual.
Stealth: By going against everything Raim has taught her about seduction and grabbing people's attention. She's now capable of making herself less noticeable to the point where she can sneak up to Raim herself no problem.
Familiar[]
Boss: An almost-abstract-made demon beast comes with a familiar called a Falfal. This green creature looks very eccentric, much like its owner. Clara named him Boss when he was resummoned in her second year.
Equipment[]
Connor and Murf: A pair of green lizard-looking slippers which Clara uses as protective clothing for her feet. Connor is the right slipper and Murf is the left slipper.[4] Both loafers have a big head surrounding Clara's toes, that appear to be a face with horns, a big pair of eyes and teeth, and have extending limbs on the edges of the slipper. They seem to have an eerie presence and are able to move their eyes, but it is unknown if they are considered to be living creatures.[1] Clara can use Connor and Murf as an offensive attack called Slipper Kick which uses force in both of her feet that supposedly obstructs anything on its way. Both of the pair has also the ability to be in a motor-like state where they can move Clara without moving her feet at all by vigorously waving their limbs.[2] Connor can change their eye color to red, and Murf can change the color of their eyes into blue.[5]
Bakkun: A costume used by Clara in order to use her technique "Clara's Toybox", which is a combination of her Bloodline Magic "Summon" and Illusion Magic she learned from Raim. [6] This ability allows Clara to create a magical realm where she can create anything she wants, using this capability to drag her targets and make them play with her so much they're drain of their mana.
Trivia[]
